WaterFire

If you plan to visit the area in May or November, you will be in luck. These are the months when the famous WaterFire festival is taking place, so you will be able to experience the city at its best. The city is filled by lights and art during the festival days, so make sure to take in the amazing atmosphere.

 

Benefit Street

This street is a must see when you visit Providence, to take the time to stroll through the streets and experience everything it offers. The street is packed with mansions dating back from the Feudal era, and the architectural design of the buildings are the perfect backdrop for pictures.

 

The RISD Museum of Art

If you want to get a good dose of art, check out the impressive RISD Museum of Art. The museum contains many local pieces, but also Asian and European art. Furthermore, here you will encounter many seasonal and permanent exhibits.

 

John Brown House

The gorgeous mansion is the perfect spot to spend a couple of hours. What used to be John Brown’s private residence is nowadays a museum open for tours. The elegant mansion dates back to the 18th century, and is open for daily tours.

 

The Brown University

The Brown University was founded in 1770, and is nowadays a popular tourist attraction in the city. You should take at least a couple of hours to check out the stamps collection, or check out the amazing book collection at the library.

 

Governor Henry Lippitt House

This 1865 mansion contains 30 rooms, all with a highly decorative style that will take your breath away. The Governor’s House still contains the original furnishings, and guided tours are available for anyone interested.

 

Roger Williams Park and Zoo

If you are still unsure of where to take your morning walk, visit the Park and Zoo with your family. The park includes an area for children with a playground and carousels, but also a fossil museum. The Zoo is the place where many species of animals including kangaroos reside.

 

The Culinary Arts Museum

The museum displays anything related to the history of cooking, and includes rare books dating back to the 19th century. The museum offers various exhibits related to cooking, as well as numerous artifacts.

 

The Arcade and Downcity

If you have time, make sure to check out the downtown area of the city. With a rich history, Providence provides the perfect setting to see the old mixed with the new. The Downcity is packed with coffee shops, restaurants and shops you should see during your trip.

 

Federal Hill

The Federal Hill is where the city’s Italian community resides. This area of Providence features Italian bakeries and cafes, as well as restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious pizza or a dessert.
